AIMS Research was established in 1983. It is a non-profit making Australian Government approved research institute whose aim is the advancement of clinical research into musculo-skeletal disorders, in particular sporting injuries and osteoarthritis.

A large percentage of Australia's population is in some way affected by musculoskeletal problems, which are spread across all the age groups. One common example of these problems is arthritis, which has prolonged debilitating effects on the lifestyles of those affected.

HOW AIMS IS WORKING FOR THE COMMUNITY

AIMS Research is currently involved in research in three areas:

i. Prevention of injury - Aims is currently involved in identifying groups who are at particular risk of injury and identifying methods of injury prevention. For example, the role of bracing in knee injuries.

ii. Treatment - Aims undertakes an extensive clinical research into the treatment and outcomes of surgical management of sporting injuries and surgery for osteoarthritis.

iii. Rehabilitation - Widely used protocols have been developed by AIMS Doctors for rehabilitation following injury and surgery.
